Wedding Ceremony Insurance - A Few Good Reasons Why to Get Wedding Insurance

October 20, 2008

You know everything is going to be perfect on your wedding day, so why get wedding insurance?  Wake up!  Very few weddings go off without a hitch.  We’ve all heard the horror stories.  Your friend spent $48,000 for her dream wedding only to find out that the designer made a mistake and the gown didn’t fit, and the baker dropped the cake while carrying it into the reception hall.  Sending her future mother-in-law to the bridal shop to pick up a new gown was a bad idea (she always wondered if his mom really liked her) and putting the groom on the phone to find a quickie baker resulted in wedding cupcakes.  Not to mention the additional money that had to be spent.  Are you seeing yet why to get wedding insurance?

With the right wedding insurance the extra expense would have been covered, as would the future mom-in-law’s near hospitalization after the bride had a look at the new gown.  Some wedding insurance would even have paid for a postponement of the wedding under such circumstances.  Protecting yourself from the unlimited amount of things that can happen to any great wedding is why to get wedding insurance.

Destination weddings are becoming ever more popular.  Some people are choosing to travel overseas to bundle their wedding and honeymoon in one, which can actually save a bundle of money.  Do you need wedding insurance for overseas weddings?  You will probably not have a guest list of more than a dozen people, if any at all.  You won’t likely need a caterer, either.  The reception hall is not going to be a necessity.  Isn’t that what wedding insurance covers?

Actually, wedding insurance does cover these things, but covers so much more than that.  You will still have to book your wedding location and the person to perform the wedding.  You may want a florist local to the destination to decorate and provide the bouquet.  You will need a photographer and videographer, even more so than for an at home wedding.  Your families would be a little upset if they didn’t even get to see the wedding on video after the fact.  Some couples are even setting up webcams and allowing families to attend their overseas wedding virtually.
