Insurance For Wedding Abroad - What Insurance for Overseas Weddings Covers

Destination weddings are becoming ever more popular.  Some people are choosing to travel overseas to bundle their wedding and honeymoon in one, which can actually save a bundle of money.  Do you need wedding insurance for overseas weddings?  You will probably not have a guest list of more than a dozen people, if any at all.  You won’t likely need a caterer, either.  The reception hall is not going to be a necessity.  Isn’t that what wedding insurance covers?

Actually, wedding insurance does cover these things, but covers so much more than that.  You will still have to book your wedding location and the person to perform the wedding.  You may want a florist local to the destination to decorate and provide the bouquet.  You will need a photographer and videographer, even more so than for an at home wedding.  Your families would be a little upset if they didn’t even get to see the wedding on video after the fact.  Some couples are even setting up webcams and allowing families to attend their overseas wedding virtually.

Wedding Abroad Insurance
Insurance for overseas weddings can be purchased but it will be more costly than typical domestic wedding insurance, by at least 10%.  Wedding abroad insurance can protect you in the cases of lost luggage, which would include the wedding attire, lost rings, inclement weather cancellation or postponement due to flight delays, and all of the other things that domestic wedding insurance covers.

The biggest mistake that people make when purchasing their insurance for overseas weddings is that they assume that this is the same thing as traveler’s insurance.  It usually is not and traveler’s insurance should also be considered.  However, the two can be combined in many cases, saving a little bit of money.

Traveler’s Wedding Insurance

Traveler’s wedding insurance is a bundle of wedding insurance and traveler’s insurance.  Wedding insurance, even specific insurance for overseas weddings, doesn’t cover things like accidents and hospital stays that could happen when you’re stung by a jellyfish while scuba-diving on your honeymoon.  It is also not going to cover the contents of your luggage if your hotel room is broken into and your things stolen, or if you drop your wallet into the volcano while taking a peek.  Traveler’s wedding insurance can cover these types of mishaps.

The mistake most often made with traveler’s wedding insurance is the assumption that it is all inclusive every time.  You cannot just call your agent and say, “I want traveler’s wedding insurance for an overseas wedding” and expect him to quickly write you up a policy.  Another mistake made is that people get their insurance for overseas weddings too soon.  The policy expires, usually after a year, so you will have to pay another premium if this is allowed to happen.  Wedding insurance should be purchased once deposits have begun to be made, and this should be within a year of the wedding.

Be sure to get all of the details of the insurances for overseas weddings.  There are different types and different coverages that you will want to know about.  You don’t want to pay too much for wedding insurance that covers an avalanche if your destination wedding is in the tropics.  But you do want to pay enough for your insurance for your overseas wedding to cover anything that might happen to your wedding or while on your honeymoon.
